Description

COMPOSITION: 

  1. For 250 mg tablets : Each Ciproxen 250 mg film coated tablet contalns 291 mg ciprofloxacin hydrochloride, equivalent to 250 mg ciprofloxacin.
  2. For 500 mg tablets : Each Ciproxen 500 mg film coated tablet contalns 582 mg ciprofloxacin hydrochloride, equivalent to 500 mg ciprofloxacin.
  3. For 750 mg tablets : Each Ciproxen 750 mg film coated tablet contalns 873 mg ciprofloxacin hydrochloride, equivalent to 750 mg ciprofloxacin.


INDICATIONS & USAGE: 
Ciprofloxacin has been effective in the treatment of the following infections :

  1. Urinary tract infections.
  2. Gonorrhoea and other sexually transmitted diseases.
  3. Bacterial gastrointestinal infections.
  4. Osteomyelitis.
  5. Infection of the respiratory tract.
  6. Skin structure infections.
  7. Prophylaxis in immunocompromised patients.
  8. Infection with a typical mycobacterium.
  9. Other infections.


DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: 
Unless otherwise prescribed the following guideline doses are recommended:
For 250 mg
For 500 mg
Uncomplicated upper &lower urinary tract infections 2 x 1 film coated tablet/day.
rnComplicated urinary tract infections ( according to severity) 2 x 1 - 2 film coated tablet/day 2 x 1/2 - 1 film coated tablet/day.
Respiratory tract infections (e.g. bronchitis) 2 x 1 - 2 film coated tablet/day, 2 x 1 film coated tablet/day.
Other infection 2 x1 film coated tablet/day.
In serious infections (e.g. pneumonia. Infections or the abdominal cavity, bones and joints) caused by pseudomonas or staphylococci and in acute pneumonia due to Streptococcus pneumonia, the daily dose must be increased to 2 x 750 mg if treatment is not administered parentally. Acute gonorrhoea and acute uncomplicated cystitis in women can be treated with a single dose of 250 mg. In chlamydial infections of the urogenital tract, the dose should be increased to 2x 750 mg if necessary. For CAPD patients with peritonitis the following dose is recommended: 4 x 500 mg film coated tablet/day (maximum dose). Up to 500 mg can also be administered as a single daily dose in uncomplicated urinary tract infections and gastrointestinal infections. Older patients should receive as low as possible, depending on the severity of the disease and on creatine clearance.
